A Brief History

30 years

Our company was founded in 1982 as a distributor of Digital Equipment specializing in terminals and minicomputers. Since our earliest days, ABS has always put customers first, paying attention to their request for services as well as products. In 1987 we added maintenance to the hardware we sold. When PC's arrived, we expanded our field service operations. When servers and connectivity became issues, our consulting and networking practice was born. And when clients asked if we could add help desk to our repertoire of services, ABShelp™, the predecessor to ABS Service Manager, was born.

For 34 years, founder Tom Mitchell expertly anticipated shifts in the IT market enabling ABS to foresee customer service needs. CEO Rosemarie Mitchell headed up the company and instituted a service standard that remains "nothing short of perfection." ABS has thrived ever since and today offers a robust menu of IT support and services to companies nationwide. As a result, ABS is delighted to acquire new clients and honored that current customers choose us as their IT partner year after year.

In 2017, ABS was acquired by Mechdyne Corporation, a broad-based technology partner specializing in audiovisual and information technologies (AV/IT), visualization and software solutions, immersive virtual reality technologies, and technical support services.

ABS and the Community

In our desire to be of service to the greater community, ABS contributes financially to numerous organizations including the University of Chicago Medical Center, the American Heart Association, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Barrington Area Council on Aging, and IIT Stuart School of Business. In addition, we donate IT services to a variety of non-profit establishments, and our people give generously of their time and talents. Senior members of our management team hold board and leadership positions in various volunteer organizations throughout the region.

As a responsible citizen committed to promoting a healthier planet, ABS strongly supports an eco-friendly work-at-home initiative to reduce usage of bio-fuels for auto transport. Through significant investment in virtual technology, every one of our employees has an ABS home office option.
